One of my favorite things to photograph are people who have been training for competition. They take months and years of work to sculpt and condition their bodies, and the results are truly amazing. I was proud to photograph many of the competitors at the FAME Centrals at the Cobourg Community Centre this past weekend, and we got some amazing shots! You may notice some familiar faces in the first photograph. Hal and Joanne from Body Break, were guests at the competition. I have to admit, I was a little giggly photographing them, and in my excitement I *may* have momentarily forgot to put a card in the camera right away. No worries, I figured it out after a couple of frames!

Here is our final team shot for Team Avery. I must say, it was tricky tracking down all the contestants (who were getting ready to eat their first non-restricted meals in months!) and getting everyone photographed, but the end result turned out great! Rock & Roll Mini’s! March 30th & 31st

Each Rock & Roll mini session is 20 minutes in length, and will include 2 sets, and an outfit change if desired. A selection of the best images in colour and black and white will be available on disk within two weeks of your session date. Also, each session will receive one 8×10 Rock & Roll Magazine Cover, suitable for framing.

Here’s a few examples of our Rock & Roll Mini sessions. Participants should bring a funky outfit and accessories, and any instruments or props they like. We have instruments and props in the studio as well. Feel free to think outside of the box and come up with your own spin for your own little Rock & Roll kid! I’m An Auntie! (again!)

I love celebrating all of the special events in my clients lives, but it’s extra special when it’s one of my own family members. We recently welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the family when Brent and Andrea had their son Landon Paul Hasson, baby brother to our nephew Carter. It was my absolute joy and privilege to take a few photos of him at 5 days old. I know he is being welcomed into one of the most amazing, loving families I’ve ever known, and I wish him great things in his life.

Welcome to the fold, Landon. We are so glad to meet you. xo

Fresh!

I am sure the thought of packing up a brand new baby, including all of their assorted gear, and trucking out to meet your family photographer for a newborn session is one of the last things new parents want to do when they get out of the hospital following the birth of their new babe. However, that extra effort is worth it all when the photos are done. Working with a baby under a week old is a photographers dream. They are so squishy and bendy, it just makes our job so much easier. It’s nice that a newborn baby’s natural instincts are perfectly suited to being photographed! Here’s another brand new babe, close to a week old. You can’t plan getting such a great smile, but occasionally, patience is rewarded.

Thanks for allowing me to share in your joy, and for bringing this little doll in early enough to get a great result! Well done, Mom and Dad!

Welcome Baby C!

This lovely little family has been in to see me a few times, and I fully admit that I have fallen in love with their beloved daughter, J. She is 2 1/2 years of fabulousness, all rolled up in a deeply-dimpled package. I just love that mischievous smile on this little character! Well, J has recently become a big sister to baby C, and she couldn’t be more proud. I really enjoy newborn sessions, but especially when the bigger siblings are enjoying it too!

Thanks for bringing the newest member of the family to meet me, ladies!

Did you miss me?

The early part of any year in this business doesn’t tend to be overly busy, and after heading south last year at this time, and really finding it a great way to recharge, we decided to do it again. My fiance and I (yep, if you missed it, I am getting MARRIED soon!) just got back from the Dominican Republic, and in the spirit of sharing, I wanted to post a few of our vacation snaps. I don’t usually post many personal things, mostly because I’m not sure anyone would care anyway, but here goes nothing!

We stayed at an all-inclusive in Playa Dorada, right on the beach. I have never been to the Dominican before this trip, and I am pretty sure I will be back. It was absolutely stunning. The people were friendly and fun, and the locale was truly gorgeous. We spent seven sun-soaked days (well, mostly sun soaked!) crossing a few things off our bucket lists. Here’s a few of the highlights, if you were curious!

Swam out to the reef to snorkel with my buddy Tack. It was really far. I might have been scared back to shore by a black garbage bag full of water that floated by in my peripheral vision...

Well that’s the ‘Coles Notes’ version of our trip, but we had so much fun, and are already planning our vacation for next year. We are definitely interested in recommendations for fabulous vacation spots, so feel free to comment on the post to offer up your favorite places!

LauraLee & Angelo Get Married!

There was an overwhelming feeling of joy in the air when LauraLee and Angelo were married, and it was palpable. This bride was all smiles from the moment I saw her, and throughout the entire day. The weather was absolutely perfect, and everything came together for a perfect day.

I must also mention the awesome bridal party (hi Cousin Vince!) and how much fun they were to hang out with for the day! It’s always a great bonus when we have a wedding party that will do ANYTHING for a great shot. They were enthusiastic, fun-loving and just a really cool bunch. Thanks guys!

Sarah & Tim ~ Simply Beautiful

I truly loved working with this couple over the course of their wedding planning. Sarah is a teacher, and is super-organized and full of fun. No ‘t’ was uncrossed, no ‘i’ not dotted, so this wedding went off without a hitch. One thing that couldn’t be controlled, of course was the weather, and man, was it HOT! I believe it was in the 90′s that day, although you can’t tell it from looking at Sarah. She was calm, cool, and collected (not to mention stunning!) on her big day, despite the soaring mercury. It was a beautiful, relaxed ceremony, followed by a perfect reception at the Newcastle Town Hall with many whimsical touches that showed off the couples personality. (Check out the cake!)

One thing is for sure, if Sarah ever decides to change careers, wedding planning might be a very viable option!

Bridal Showcase

In anticipation of the Bridal show last fall, I did a shoot with some beautiful ladies and some amazing gowns from Lasting Memories Bridal and Evening Wear in Cobourg. Hair and make-up was done by Amy at Indstri Hair Studio & Spa. I really love collaborating with local vendors (especially these ones!) for a fun and creative project that allows us to be creative and show off some beautiful things. Win-win!

The Brides Project

Last fall I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of a beautiful young woman that I have known for many years. She and her fiance moved their wedding forward to take advantage of his mom’s temporary good health, as she has been fighting cancer for the past year. I was amazed when Meagan told me that she had purchased her dress from The Brides Project, who donates ALL our profits from previously loved wedding dresses to support cancer charities. If you haven’t yet checked out this incredible organization, please do, and consider donating your previously loved wedding dress to the cause.

Meagan is returning to The Brides Project to bring her wedding dress back, as well as several other dresses donated by her friends for the project. If you, or someone you know, has a dress you would like to donate please let me know, and I will be sure to pass along your information to Meagan. It’s for a great cause, and it benefits brides with a smaller budget, as well as the charities fundraising for cancer research and treatment.
